Focus9/30/2011 So my camera batteries are charging…
Focus is a strange thing. One can focus on the tiny details of something or the bigger picture. Being able to do both at the same time is the challenge. I remember the first time I realised why I love photography. I was in George, my town of birth, sightseeing with my dad. Since I didn’t grow up there he showed me around. I ended up sitting on a railway line disappearing into the forest taking photographs. I was using his old Zenith E camera which he gave to me. Side note: guess this little trip has started way back in the 80’s when my dad returned from a conference in India and showed us his trannies on a projector. Anyway, me sitting on the railway…Next thing I notice is the horn of a train. I look up and just in time get off the tracks as it stamps its wheels passed me. Point of the story, I realised the lens put me in a completely different world. It took me away into a square little box that I could move, shape and focus the way I want it to. A great photographer who taught me most I know about photography gave me my second lesson. It was a project to take self portraits. “Learn both side of the camera first.” were my instructions. The same happens when I play music and think there will be many more times or things I will experience that do “that”. “That” being able to completely focus on one thing and the other part of you being on a kind of cyborg mode. So hope Sunday morning “that” starts and hope India will be part of the bigger picture and that I will be able to enjoy and truly focus on the smaller details. I am not really focussed today... So you know what, go outside. There is a weak spring sun shining on Cape Town today. Take 5 min and just take it in! Focus on it without your sense of sight. Have an awesome day! ...c Ps: have changed this page’s name to what it should be ( I think ) and have also added the “see” page…”hear” page still to follow with music…
