Coaching a Dream3/21/2013 At some stage last year I got asked to take on an extra coaching session per week with a particular “struggling” employee. She was already on a lot of pressure with extra training, coaching from a manager and another quality coach. We started our sessions finding a goal. We then decided to use our session to escape from work and all the pressure associated with it. So our sessions were used to make work fun and enjoyable. Once that is done all other challenges at work should be easier to achieve, right? Something that is fun must be easy to do…that was our goal.
So for a couple of weeks we watched motivational videos, had debates, chats, took a walk , etc, anything but work…During one such a session she asked if I had seen the graffiti on the highway. I drive past it every day. And I had not! At that point of the highway the traffic is usually quite busy and I will be white lining / lane splitting to get my bike through the traffic to the front of the queue. Still that is an excuse, I should have seen it! I have looked at it many times since then. And today on my way to work, a public holiday here in South Africa, it was quiet enough for me to be able to stop on the highway and take a photograph…. Sometimes I wonder who coached who? Today my lesson for myself is: Make your days enjoyable and fun! Happy Human Rights day! …c
